We had a chat with Daniel Hannington, a talented photographer born and bred in Guildford – take a look at his simply stunning photos of our beloved town.

So what can you tell us about yourself Dan?

I am 29 years old and I currently work for Guildford Borough Council. I have a passion for aviation and photography.

How long have you lived in Guildford for and what is it about our town that has really kept you here?

I was born and raised in Guildford, so you could say I am a true ‘Guildfordian’. Guildford is very well located not just for its local amenities, as within a 5-minute drive in any direction you can escape the hustle and bustle of the town and be in the beautiful countryside.

So how did you get into photography; can you remember the moment or the photo that made you think “I love doing this and want to start taking it more seriously”?

I have been interested in taking photos since my childhood years, back when cameras took film. I can remember taking photographs to be developed and waiting with anticipation to see the results of my endeavours. In recent years I posted photographs on my social media channels, and after a receiving a lots of positive comments, I thought about taking it a stage further by investing in some professional level camera equipment.

You’re clearly a passionate and skilled photographer, but what are your favourite things to capture on camera?

As most people that know me are aware, I am an avid aviation enthusiast, so my number one thing to photograph is aeroplanes. Aviation aside, I enjoy photographing wildlife and the great outdoors.

We’re very lucky to have so many beautiful places in Guildford, what’s your favourite place to visit and take photos of, or is that just too hard to choose?

That’s a difficult question to answer, in Guildford you are spoilt for choice. I do like somewhere with an excellent view, so if I had to choose it would be the open space at the top of The Mount. It offers fantastic Panoramic views over Guildford and surrounding areas.

What’s one tip you would give to someone interested in getting into photography, something that you wish you’d known when you first started?

Learn how to use light; light is everything in photography and understanding it and incorporating it into your images can be the difference between an ok image and a great image.

Where can we find more of your work Dan?
