With Pancake Day quickly approaching we thought it was only right that we go find the best pancakes in Wimbledon for you lovely people. Rest assured we’ve found them, so you don’t have to search high and low. And the best thing about them? You can order to collect them and pass them off as your own, don’t worry we won’t tell a soul!
Belgian Brasserie has been a Merton Abbey Mills favourite for the past 10 years and under new management it’s only going from strength to strength. Yvonne and her team have helped create a warm friendly atmosphere as if you’re being welcomed into a friend’s home. Service is speedy without cutting corners, resulting in great tasting food without the massive wait.
We started our meal with the Deluxe Hot Chocolate, topped with whipped cream, marshmallows and served with dark chocolate buttons. The hot chocolate was rich, filling and made from melted chocolate flakes, just how we like it.
Next up were the crepes. As we were there on a Saturday morning it only seemed right to check out the breakfast selection. We ordered the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs crepe which came with baby leaf spinach and hollandaise sauce served in the cutest mini coffee cup. This was a great twist on a traditional Eggs Royale and twice as tasty! The other breakfast crepe we ordered was the scrambled eggs and crispy bacon. This is a customer favourite and it’s not hard to see why when it comes with baked beans, cheese, garlic mayo and baby leaf spinach. This was definitely our favourite and we’ll undoubtedly be back for more as in all honesty we’re slightly obsessed! We do however recommend going for regular crepes rather than large purely so you can save space for something sweet.
In the spirit of trying everything we branched out and had a waffle to finish off the meal: a banana and chocolate waffle to be more exact. The bananas were fresh and just as the crepes and hot chocolate before it the waffle arrived quickly. We’ve also been told that you can actually pick your favourite chocolate bars and they’ll melt it down onto a waffle or pancake for you, perfect for all you chocaholics on Pancake Day!
If you’re looking for pancakes with a kick, try their boozy crepes! If it hadn’t been 10.30am on a Saturday, we would have eaten as many as we could manage. Thankfully Belgian Brasserie is open till 10pm on Pancake Day, aka socially acceptable hours to get drunk on pancakes.
